The Benefits Of Mole Removal Surgery

Some people have moles that they love. Others have ones they are less fond of. Whether it is the appearance, or if the mole is irritating, itchy, or uncomfortable, Dr. Seal would be happy to discuss with you the options for removal, and how to make the scar as unnoticeable as possible.

Mole Removal Considerations

Moles can appear anywhere on the skin. They are also known as melanocytic nevi, where nevi, or nevus essentially means “nest of cells”, predominantly formed from melanocytes. These are the cells in your skin that produce pigment. When these pigmented lesions are in areas that make them more noticeable on the face, patients often wish to have them removed. In general, incisions are made in natural creases in conjunction with the relaxed skin tension line to help hide them as best as possible. One of Dr. Seal’s goals for your Facial Mole Removal, is to make your incisions as unnoticeable as possible, and they will continue to fade over the first year after your minor surgery. All of the important scar management modalities that you can do to help optimize your incision and results are reviewed during your follow-up visits.

Often times patients can be concerned about these lesions over time. The most worrisome features to look out for include, increasing size, change in colour, bleeding, pain, and/or any other suspicious change. If you have any of these features, you should see your family physician, or dermatologist more urgently for review.

What To Expect During Your Recovery

Facial Mole Removal is performed under local anaesthetic as an outpatient procedure in a private minor surgery procedure room. You will be able to go home after the procedure to relax and recover. In general, most patients recover well over the first day, and can return to work and regular activities that day if desired. You can shower the day after the procedure and get the incision wet. The sutures are removed after 5-to-6 days. Dr. Seal will see you in the office over the recovery period to review all of the important information with you and ensure you are doing well. The incisions continue to fade over the first year, and all of the important things you can do to help optimize your results are reviewed during your follow-up visits.
